Housby Service Center – A Modern Approach to Industrial Design

Project Overview
Housby has been a staple in central Iowa for over 55 years, providing parts, service, and sales for trucks and heavy equipment, including Mack Trucks, Isuzu Trucks, and Volvo Construction Equipment. To enhance its operations, Housby and 10Fold partnered together to develop a state-of-the-art 135,000 square foot facility located at Crosswinds Business Park in Ankeny, Iowa. Previously limited by their aging facilities, this consolidated campus not only creates opportunities for new business, but also promotes human interaction, increases efficiency, and prioritizes Housby’s ultimate asset: its people.

The new facility includes:

  • Truck and equipment repair center
  • Wash bays
  • Training lab and classroom
  • Corporate offices and breakroom
  • Parts warehouse
  • Retail and sales center

Opened in 2024, the facility seamlessly blends modern design, cutting-edge amenities, and a thoughtful layout. Focusing on inclusivity, safety, and growth, the facility meets Housby’s diverse needs while reinforcing its brand identity.

Redefining the Housby Experience
Driven by a passion for human-centered design, this project set out to redefine the Housby experience for both employees and customers. The goal was clear: enhance functionality while enriching the daily lives of every individual who interacts with the space. After more than 50 years in the same location, Housby faced limitations due to aging facilities, which restricted new business opportunities and hindered operational efficiency. With services and staff spread across five different facilities, consolidating under one roof was essential to promote collaboration, increase efficiency, and foster a sense of belonging among employees. This transformation was not just about modernization; through intentional and thoughtful design strategies, the project aimed to create a workplace and customer experience that was both inspiring and deeply supportive of employee well-being.

Blending Safety and Comfort
By addressing the challenges of the previous facility, this project delivered an industry-leading campus and an excellent workplace experience. Employee access was prioritized through multiple welcoming entrances, eliminating the “back door” perception. The facility also features a comprehensive security system with controlled access, fencing, cameras, and an app for employee entry. Upon entry, the shop is filled with natural light from over 40 windows and overhead doors, assisting technicians as they perform detailed work, with the window glazing helping to reduce glare. The safety and comfort of each technician is enhanced with radiant heated floors, a dedicated cooling system to regulate humidity and temperature, and large destratification fans for air circulation. Snow and ice melt systems help reduce accident risks for employees and visitors. Additionally, bridge cranes cover 50% of the 48 service bays, improving efficiency and workflow for heavy equipment handling.

Housby University
Also part of the campus, Housby University is a debt-free diesel technician training program that offers students over 5,000 square feet of instructional space, professional-grade locker rooms, and a fully stocked break room. This program further advances employee development and drives the company’s operational growth.

From Vision to Reality: Custom Design That Delivers
Housby has raised the standards of quality and service by creating a thoughtfully designed environment that enhances productivity, promotes well-being, and elevates both the employee and customer experience. The space reflects a deep understanding of operational needs and a commitment to long-term success. As a result, collaboration between departments has increased, leading to improved workflows. Housby University students can transition seamlessly from classroom learning to hands-on training, while customers benefit from easy access to both sales and service teams. Additionally, the dedicated loading dock and warehouse streamlines parts handling and facilitates on-site vehicle repairs without delays, further supporting operations.

At 10Fold, we believe great design starts by listening to our clients. We work closely with each partner to understand their goals and experiences, then turn that vision into reality through thoughtful, custom design. It’s a true collaboration, from concept to completion.
